Kyparissi is located nexrt to Myrtoo sea and mountain Parnonas. The very clear beaches, the noumerous paths and the hospitality of the local people will attract you.
Unfortunately we do not know many things from the ancient history of the village.
In the late of the 2nd century we know from Pausanias that when he passed throught Kyparisi he found it deserted. Kyparissi with the old name Kyfanta seems to be inhabited later as we see from the existence of Asklipios, the presence of a Byzantine castle and from castle ruins. There are many versions about the origin of the name Kyparissi. One of these is that the area belonged to a great landowner named Kyparissis. Another version is that in the village lived beautiful, tall girls with long hair and the captains used to call them Kyparissia (cypresses). Kyparissi in english means cypress.
